Haenyeo dive into the sea without any mechanical devices and hold their breath to collect seafood. In fact, the ocean is a world that has not been pioneered by humans as much as the outer space. Haenyeo's material work is both a fundamental economic activity and at the same time challenging human limitations. Haenyeo is challenging her limits in everyday life.

In order to understand haenyeo, we must first understand Jeju Island, a land of barren conditions. A land where rice paddy farming is impossible due to insufficient water, and only some fields can be farmed. Men go out to the sea to catch fish, but 50% of them die in a storm. Without a chance to rely on him or be frustrated by anyone, Haenyeo would have jumped into the sea to feed his family. To me, haenyeo are more proud than Korean women's gold medalists who won the gold medal at the Olympics.

It is known that haenyeo experience content was planned and commercialized to tourists, and after appearing as a panel on the KBS Jeju Content Antenna "Meet Haenyeo Content", I got to know many people who make haenyeo content.

Among them, the "Little Haenyeo Exhibition" was planned by attracting those who aim for a cute and lovely haenyeo image. Instead of a heavy image of a haenyeo, we wanted to deliver a bright haenyeo message that gives hope in the Corona era. Everyone who participated in this exhibition visited each and every one of them and told us the purpose, but they all readily accepted the participation. All of these people have been working with a sense of mission to promote the value of Jeju and Haenyeo despite difficult conditions. Using this opportunity, I would like to thank and support the artists who participated.

The writers of "Haenyeo is a strong real feminist", "Haenyeo is a silent practitioner", "Haenyeo is a ballerina in the sea", and "Haenyeo is a lovely mermaid" each reinterpret the haenyeo and melt it into content.

The meaning of regeneration of the original city can be found through the exhibition prepared in a small space that has been used as a simple and lovely guest house called Little Haenyeo by hand remodeling an abandoned house that is nearly 50 years old. It is also a village culture experiment of residents without the help of such common support projects, as well as a female artist exhibition. Most of the participating writers are striving toward their dreams, overcoming career breaks due to parenting.

Corona is a small exhibition that is more suitable for constraints. The number of simultaneous admission is limited to 7 or less. The online exhibition was also produced in an English version, so it became meaningful as an online global exhibition of haenyeo contents. Above all, it would be nice if it would be a little comfort to families who are suffering from a difficult time due to the corona. If the corona is a little quiet, there are plans to exhibit offline in Seoul and abroad this year.

I would like to express my gratitude to the head of the Yongdam Living Culture Center in Jeju City, Bong-soo Ko, and Young-Shim Kim, the president of the Yongma Village Association, for their warm encouragement and support.
